who is bjd?

What does bjd stand for? on that note what does b stand for?

they are my initials - Brendan John Daly - my great friend matt fletcher [not a blogger] called me b and although I never really wanted it to, it become common use.

Now, I actually like it when in the real world people call me b, feels very special and friendly, I use it online for a bit more anonymity and it is easier to type than brendan. Plus there was a Brendon at Boys' Brigade who I dubbed B2 when he first joined and so I guess I am B1 or just B.

I have always wanted and thought it was cool when people had nicknames - it makes me feel like I am a part of the group and so I like to give people nicknames when I can to make them feel like they fit in and have a bond with me - except for the soccer commentary names which are just for fun and to describe the type of player or just to get a laugh.

how long u've been blogging?

this was my first post on blogger - I quickly out grew blogger - back then it was a monster, slow, unreliable, not very mac friendly and not even a shadow of the blogger you guys use today. I made my own blogg using my mad coder skillz in html, php and mysql.

My first proper post on this new blogg was Dec 27th 2002. I have had a web page since about 1995.[more about my net history]

how old are you?

what do you do for a living?

I am a teacher at Westfields Sports High School. I was maths trained with a bit of computing thrown in but my own interest in computers and the fact that I could talk more to the students about what they [and i] believed I quickly moved to computing teaching.

I have been teaching since 1993 - I did 6 months at Ingleburn High before having a bit of a breakdown and running away to the country for a week before coming back to have 6 months off and sort myself out a bit - God was so gracious in that time - I grew heaps and for the first time learnt about who I was and began to actually try and understand myself better.

In 1994 I started at Westfields Sports and have been there ever since. Next week and for 2005 I will not be face to face at all but managing all the computing stuff in the school and I will be taking a day a week off on Part Time Leave without Pay to work down at the church I attend, Toongabbie Baptist, doing admin type stuff to free the pastors up to do more pastory things. I am very excited by this.

In other ministries, I took over the running Boys Brigade No2 Section - an all male uniformed youth group for high school guys - in 1992 at toongabbie baptist church having become a christian in July 1991. I was there until July 2002 when I left rather suddenly to try and sort out a few issues which I had left unresolved and basically suffering from burn out - and because God told me it was time to go but I hadn’t heard him so he gave me a push.

In 2003 I took on the evening music ministry which I called the evening ministry team [emt - I am in computing, everything is shortened to three letters] and has been great fun and once again a place to see God use me, and see God work.

I have preached a few times - the next time is this sunday morning at the 9am service. And during my time in Boys Brigade became [even if I do say so myself] the master of the 10 minute talk [story + scripture + application + gospel = 10 minutes].

where do you live?

I live in toongabbie - in the western suburbs of sydney - about half way between parramatta [go the eels!!] and blacktown. I have been living in Toongabbie since about 1994ish when I moved to Toongabbie Baptist - to help be closer to the church and the guys in the Boy’s Brigade company while I was captain.

I share a house with Steve and Thommo who also go to Toongabbie Baptist.

I was born in brisbane lived in Bondi until I was 9 when we moved to Greystanes then moved to Wentworthville in around 1993, before moving into various houses in Toongabbie since 1994 or so.
